    Celebrate Local Foods Week with Cooking Demonstrations at Farmer’s Markets! Interested in learning quick, easy and low-cost ways to prepare produce from local farms?   Then come to a cooking demonstration at the local farmer’s markets participating in the Produce Perks program. You’ll learn tips on selecting seasonal produce, ways to prepare and store safely, all while saving money.  You’ll also discover the health benefits of some of your favorite produce items!

    If you’d like to learn more about growing and preserving your own food, join us at the Goshen Branch Library for Preserving the Harvest. Margaret Jenkins from the OSU Extension Office will explain basic fruit and vegetable gardening techniques for backyard, community, or container gardening. You’ll also learn how to safely preserve vegetables, fruits, jams, pickles and more. This lecture is designed to inform and inspire all skill levels, ages 12 and up, to grow, prepare, and preserve local foods.

    Ohio Local Foods Week is August 7-13 and this program is part of that celebration in Hancock County. Peg Meents from OSU Extension Hancock will be cooking with local foods-highlighting recipes using fresh fruits and vegetables. There's a great diversity of hundreds of foods from Ohio that represent all five food groups of My Plate: milk, grains, fruits, vegetables, and proteins. Plan to join us as we explore the bounty of Ohio local foods. See attached flyer for additional details.

    OSU Extension and Local Bounty Coshocton are collaborating to offer the fourth annual Local Foods Kids Cooking Camp this summer. This year’s theme is Cooking Around the Clock with fun, interactive classes providing children an opportunity to explore recipes featuring local foods. Classes will be at Local Bounty Coshocton August 8-12.

    Urban Farms of Central Ohio, an initiative of the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, transforms vacant and underutilized sites in underserved neighborhoods into productive, sustainable urban farms that provide low-income, food insecure residents increased access to fresh, local produce. Tour Clarfield Farm, the initiative’s first project, which has been fully transformed into a thriving year-round farm with three high tunnel structures.
